Best Street Food in Rome

STREET FOOD IN ROME

When it comes to Rome, there is a lot to offer in terms of beautiful experiences. It is a city steeped in rich history and culture, with unique landmarks, art, and architecture around every corner. But perhaps one of the most important experiences that Rome has to offer is its food. Rome is home to some of the most iconic and delicious dishes that Romans have passed down through generations. And what better way to experience the city than by exploring its streets and trying out the delicious street food Rome has to offer?

As a food enthusiast and Italian food ambassador at Vincenzoโ€™s Plate, Iโ€™m excited to take you on a culinary journey through the streets of Rome. During this time, we will discover the six best Roman street foods that you absolutely must try when you find yourself here. Grab a fork and let’s dive in!

  1. Two Sizes

Two Sizes is a cozy nook that’s famous for its 5 flavors of 100% homemade tiramisu, which comes in both large and small portions, as well as its Sicilian cannoli. It offers, without exaggerating, the best street food desserts in town and it’s only a 3-minute walk from the Piazza Navona. Once you try the tiramisu, it’s sure to become your new obsession, just like it did for me. The texture is creamy yet still firm, and the flavor is delicious. You’ll find yourself wanting seconds and then thirds to go โ€“ so go in when youโ€™re hungry so you can enjoy as many servings as you wish. It’s hard to find the words to describe it, but all I can say is, wow!

  1. La Rinascita Porchetteria

When in Rome, you simply cannot miss out on La Rinascita Porchetteriaโ€™s Panini Con La Porchetta. This sandwich with pork roast is an essential part of the Italian street food experience. The first bite of this sandwich is pure bliss โ€“ starting with the satisfying crunch of the fresh bread on the outside, followed by the irresistibly soft and fluffy texture on the inside. And let’s not forget about the star ingredient – the thick slices of warm, flavorful Porchetta layered between the bread. It’s a match made in heaven that will leave your taste buds singing. This sandwich is the epitome of street food in Rome. It (almost) doesnโ€™t get better than this.

If you’re curious about how to make Porchetta, I highly recommend checking out my YouTube channel video. It’s a fascinating look into the process, and it will make you appreciate this delicious sandwich even more. You might even want to recreate it at home!

  1. Maritozzi Rosso Kitchen Lab

Just a 2-min walk away from Santa Maria in Trastevere, you can’t miss Maritozzi Rosso , it is a funky gem. I can confidently say that this unassuming hole-in-the-wall serves up some of the best traditional Roman pasta in the city. And you cannot go past their award-winning maritozzo that has a flavorful twist on tradition, and you guessed it, I tried it!

Normally, maritozzo is a sweet pastry served with whipped cream, but Maritozzi Rosso focuses on modern cooking techniques and combinations to expand the taste experience, transforming this sweet into a gourmet savory maritozzo. The bun is incredibly soft and melts in your mouth, making every bite just amazing. Mamma mia, I could eat here every day.

Their combinations such as Romano broccoli with anchovies and pecorino, burrata cheese with mortadella, and my personal favorite, the cod, are out-of-this-world culinary experiences that you just canโ€™t miss. The science behind the sweetness, saltiness, and bitterness just works, making them a kitchen lab!

If you’re looking for something completely unique and simultaneously delicious, you must make Maritozzi Rosso one of your stops when in Rome. Trust me; you won’t regret it.

  1. Habemus Pinsa

Habemus Pinsa keeps a low profile but what they serve up is anything but basic. They make Pinsa from 3-4 different types of flour, making it incredibly light and much healthier on the digestive system than normal pizza. The dough has a crispy texture on the outside and an incredibly soft, tasty, fragrant inside, which is all in the dough. Topped with extraordinary combinations, every bite is an explosion of flavors that is not your traditional pizza. They have something for literally everyoneโ€™s palate with all their unique combinations, from savory to delicate.

When you visit Habemus Pinsa, make sure to try their super creamy carbonara or cacio e pepe supplรฌ (Roman rice croquettes), which are the best. The supplรฌ is crispy on the outside with a creamy, cheesy inside that is heavenly. The carbonara version has the perfect balance of salty and creamy, and every bite is just divine. If you’re looking for something unique and incredibly delicious, make Habemus Pinsa one of your stops. Itโ€™s unassuming but delightful!

  1. Pomoโ€™

I have to say, Pomo makes some of the best pizza al taglio I’ve ever had. They weight the slice and then warm it up, creating a satisfying crunch with every bite. The cheese is top-notch and the dough is perfectly aerated, which makes for a beautiful side view of the pizza. Pomo pizza is my go-to street food when I want to pair something tasty with a cold beer or a glass of wine and just enjoy the sights around me (only in Italy โ€“ weโ€™re known for this). It’s amazing how something so simple can be so delicious. Itโ€™s also the luck of the timing as they keep making the pizzas through the day and they replace each one with a new one. We didnโ€™t want to leave when we kept seeing the variations come out of the oven!

  1. Trapizzino

Trapizzino is one of my favorite places to grab a quick and delicious bite to eat. This classic counter-serve restaurant has branches all over the world, and for good reason – people absolutely love their food! The concept is simple yet innovative – they serve filled dough pockets, along with supplรฌ (rice balls). Each trapizzino is like a little corner of focaccia bread, packed with delicious fillings like eggplant parmigiana, double cream and anchovies, or chicken cacciatore. Every warm, crunchy bite of the bread is simply sensational. The dough is very light, yet still filling and bursting with flavor. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something quick and tasty on the go in Rome.

With so many delicious options to choose from, it’s easy to find yourself eating your way through the city, just like I did today. From savory pinsa and crispy pizza al taglio to stuffed dough pockets and award-winning maritozzo, everything is so tasty and delicious; I can never get enough.
