This 8-day/7-night Abruzzo Tour begins on the beautiful Adriatic coastline, where you can wind down after your long journey and soothe away the aches and pains of travelling. Day 1 Sun.
PICK-UP IN ROME, BEACH DAY IN PESCARA, AND DINNER AT A BEACHSIDE RESTAURANT (L, A, D)
You will be picked up in Rome in the morning for a private transfer to Pescara, a bright modern city and seaside resort with stunning views of the mountains.
Check in at your hotel and freshen up. Now you have time to take a deep breath, head to the beach establishment nearby where you can relax on a sunbed or have the option to cool off in the crystal blue sea. Enjoy getting to know your fellow travellers with a light lunch and bask in the fabulous surroundings of an Italian summer, with blue skies, clear waters and colourful sun umbrellas.
After a tranquil afternoon together, we will enjoy a delicious seafood dinner at the restaurant on the beach paired with a bottle (or two!) of local white wine
Day 2 Mon.
VIBRANT PESCARA CITY, WINE TASTING AND CHIETI (B, L, A)
In the morning we will take a walking tour of the vibrant and bustling city of Pescara, the birthplace of poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. Admire the coastline and wander through the Piazza Salotto, framed by boutique shops and café bars.
Then, we offer you a private guided tour of a vineyard and exclusive wine tasting at a special winery with a castle that is steeped in glorious surroundings, the fragrance of nature and the taste of quality Abruzzo wines
In the afternoon we will visit Chieti, a lively town in Abruzzo where you will learn about its history and stop for a famous Italian gelato as you sit in the piazza and take in the ambiance!
As the sun begins to set it’s time to slow down and enjoy an “aperitivo cenato” (dinner-style aperitivo) in the true custom of Italia served with a platter of regional specialties.
Day 3 Tue.
LEARN HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT PASTA AND PRODUCE YOUR OWN CHEESE (B, L)
It is time to get hands-on and experience the real Abruzzo with a visit to a traditional, family-run ‘agriturismo,’, an organic farm in the heart of the stunning Maiella national park.
Here we will enjoy a ‘master class’ in how to make the perfect pasta’ and the art of making cheese, surrounded by nothing but nature. This will be followed by a delicious home-cooked lunch made with fresh ingredients including the pasta you will have now mastered! Mangiamo!
Day 4 Wed.
SHOPPING AT THE MARKET IN SULMONA AND AWARD WINNING WINE TASTING
(B, L, D)
We will have now reached our halfway mark and it is time to visit one of Vincenzo’s all-time favourite cities, Sulmona. You will be taken on a private guided tour of a medieval town of rare beauty, located at the foot of the Maiella national park and also known as being home of the sweet almond wedding favours, ‘confetti’
It’s then time to take a stroll around the market where you have the chance to taste and touch fresh produce from the region including cheese, truffles, seasonal fruit, vegetables, one-of-a-kind red garlic, and…PORCHETTA!
After soaking in the beautiful city filled with history and art, you will then be led to a hidden B&B that has the most priceless view of the 3 surrounding national parks and their mountains. A home-cooked lunch will be served atop the terrace of this B&B which was awarded a place in the top 3 best in Italy and is literally a secret gem that will take your breath away…
For the afternoon we will then discover the history and passion behind every bottle of wine with our exclusive vineyard tour of another remarkable winery – including a wine tasting of course!
Day 5 Thur.
TOWN OF ORTONA AND DINNER ON A TRABOCCO (B, D)
After a busy few days, we invite you to enjoy a sleep-in with a free half day to enjoy the city of Pescara, where you can possibly do some shopping, maybe go for a walk along the divine coast, have lunch on the beach, or even go for a dip at the beach.
In the early afternoon, we will visit the city of Ortona along with the beautiful “Castello Aragonese”, a Renaissance castle that overlooks the Adriatic Sea and with a panorama spanning Abruzzo’s diverse terrains.
We will then journey to one of the most incredible historical sites for a scrumptious seafood dinner: a fisherman’s hut, known as a “Trabocco” where meals are made with ingredients fished the same day. The setting is unforgettable as you overlook the infinite Trabocchi Coast. This is an experience to soak in as a traveler and is simply spectacular.
Day 6 Fri.
SANTO STEFANO DI SESSANIO & BREAD-MAKING (B, L, D)
After our departure from the hotel which has been home base so far this week, we will venture to Santo Stefano di Sessanio, one of the most striking and closely preserved 16th-century villages in central Italy. Lunch will be served at Hotel Sextantio, one of the most talked about locations in the picturesque village, not only because of its beauty but also thanks to its unique layout as guests stay in rooms spread throughout the town.
We will enjoy a magical Italian lunch in a medieval environment while looking at a breathtaking view of the mountains.
After lunch you will also be invited to participate in a bread-making masterclass where you will be shown the secrets of making rustic, Italian ‘pane’.
Before nightfall, guests will also check in to a beautiful Hotel equipped with a pool and rooms overlooking the picturesque Abruzzo mountainside. This will be your home for the next 2 nights.
Day 7 Sat.
OPERA CONCERT AND TRUFFLE LUNCH (B, L, D)
It might just be possible that we have saved the best until the last!
In the morning there will be an opportunity for some quiet time by the pool as you start the day a little slower following a very busy week!
From the pool to one of the most coveted mushrooms in Italy – engross yourself in a world of truffles. Guests will arrive in the town of Celano known for its endless supply of truffles and lunch will be served at a restaurant specialising in truffles; a gourmet meal certain to invigorate all of your senses – from savoury to sweet, the flavours will surprise and delight and you will learn just how abundant this region is with this incredible funghi
For the last night of our Abruzzo tour, we will all come together at the hotel for a light dinner where you can reminisce on some of your favourite parts of the tour experience thus far.
There will also be an exclusive, live opera performance where you can immerse your senses in music and local culture – not to mention it’s bound to give you goosebumps!
Day 8 Sun.
PORCHETTA DAY AND DEPARTURE (B, L)
As your week draws to a close, we will take you on one final tour of Tagliacozzo, an incredible medieval town where you will be in awe of the piazza’s, buildings, churches, and hidden side streets.
It’s then time for the final farewell where we invite you to join a feast at a stunning agriturismo set among nature where you will be served a selection of mouthwatering local Abruzzese dishes.
Take your place at the table where you will no doubt be filled with emotion from the week. It’s now time to demolish a scrumptious lunch with wood-fired handmade porchetta, among other typical foods.
Drop–off service is then to Rome where you will arrive around 7.00 pm.
